The Northwest Indian College obtained a substantial grant from the National Science Foundation to renovate or replace their existing research laboratory. The College determined that a new lab building would be the best use of the funding, and Zervas was retained to design the new structure to fit in with the other campus buildings in the area. The 4,200 Sq. Ft. facility will include microscopy, biology, analytical chemistry, and genetics laboratory spaces and associated storage, prep and equipment facilities. NWIC faculty, research staff and student researchers will conduct studies in areas of specific interest to the Lummi Nation and other Coast Salish Tribes including water quality, wetland and shoreline ecology, sea level rise and salmon habitat restoration.
