The Lydia Place Heart House is a mixed-use development consisting of 11 units of one- and two-bedroom Permanent Supportive Housing apartments that include trauma informed design elements. The 13,500 Sq. Ft., 3-story wood frame building will be located on the existing site of Lydia Place's nonprofit headquarters in the Puget neighborhood of Bellingham, WA. The design of the building considers the stylistic influence of the immediate residential neighbors and makes attempts to scale down to a welcoming entry, despite a tight buildable lot. A healthy wetland park hems in the property to the north, while the main operations of the nonprofit will continue to coexist on other parts of the property.
The 11 housing units will be on the second and third floors of the facility. On the ground floor and associated outdoor grounds, there will be a licensed Child Care Center facility to provide full time care for up to 32 children between ages 12 months and 5 years. The ground floor will also contain meeting rooms and a group of offices to support the programming above.
